Metomidine is a highly selective and highly potent alpha2-adrenergic receptor agonist that acts by activating alpha2-adrenergic receptors. Dexmedetomidine, as a commonly used intravenous anesthetic, is widely used in clinical anesthesia, and there have been many studies on its organ protective effect. Function

Metomidine, a derivative of imidazoles, produces antisympathetic, sedative and analgesic effects by activating α2 adrenergic receptors in the central nervous system and peripheral spinal cord. There are three subtypes of α2A receptor, α2B receptor and α2C receptor. Dexmedetomidine acts on α2A receptor, producing anti-sympathetic excitation, sedation, amnesia, analgesia and neuroprotective effects. It provides a unique "conscious sedation" and produces analgesia, and can also produce negative recognition effect, reduce heart rate and cause bradycardia.

 

Application

Metomidine is primarily used to sedate patients during anesthesia or mechanical ventilation, and can often be used in intensive care patients, as well as patients undergoing surgery.
